hello to everyone today.

some of you asked why in the world we go to the kingdom hall to partake of the emblems at memorial when we don't believe in them anymore?

was it just to cause an irritation?

The 144,000 chosen ones...I'm so confused

my biggest question about jw is regarding the 144,000 from revelations.

how could john know exactly how many people were there?

how did he know that they were representing the 12 tribes of israel?

I'm not a JW, but DUNGBEETLE answered one of my questions about half an hour ago...listed under the subject "Memorial Service...Why So Special?" His comments regard the 144,000 were interesting...they were:

"As far as Revelation goes, you gotta love this: the 'bride' of christ is symbolic; the woman of christ is symbolic; the lamb and the blood are symbolic, as are the palm fronds they wave; BUT THE 144,000 NUMBER ARE LITERAL. Just that one thing is LITERAL.

In the early 1900's, there were like 400 Bible Students (as JW's were then called). The 144,000 being a literal number was easy then. Once therir numbers passed 150,000, they was in deep do-do. You will find that the 'new light' of an earthly class was 'shed' upon the Bible Students right around that time. WHAT A COOINCIDENCE...BWAHAHAHAH"

i've been on this board since january, and although i'm not a jw or ex-jw i've learned a lot from some very 'interesting' people.

my question is: from what i understand, the memorial service comes once a year to jehovah's witnesses.

i come from a christian background where the communion is served almost every week (other christian churchs serve it once a month).

Will Power: You make a very interesting statment when you said "Proclaiming the death of the LIVING LORD until he arrives? in 1874? 1914? Why are they still doing it then?" THAT'S A REAL QUESTION TO BE ASKED.

ALSO: "By proclaiming His death, wouldn't you also be proclaiming the resurrection (which should be the real celebration) since the death is not where the story ends." HOW TRUE...I BELIEVE THE STRONGER MESSAGE IS THE RESURRECTION.

AND: "Could someone proclaim this more than once a year? I don't see how this is clearly stated as a once a year thing. Is there a limit to the times you could proclaim Christ crucified? Isn't that what the apostles were doing in all the lands? The good news, Christ crucified, the resurrection?" I believe taking the emblems are a very personal one-on-one with God...something that we as individuals need more than once-a-year trying to get through this sometimes mystifying yet wonderous life.

Thanks Beck...you just added some more insight, didn't know about the 'pass over' (and your thoughts weren't jumbled). Sorry to hear that you no longer have any interest in the Scriptures. I love the Scriptures because they can, at times, speak to me. They're the most penetrating at night, when it's quiet and I slowly unfold one of the stories in the Gospels. I especially like John. It's like traveling back in time and looking at Christ's life, not as men would explain it, but as Christ lived it and the example he was leaving us. I do think the Scriptures, are devinely given for our benefit if we use them as they were meant to be used, not as a debating platform, but as something more personal (although I think bits and pieces are missing)). I believe it is one of the ways a loving Heavenly Father reveals himself to us (among others, something tangible. I use The King James version...just seem to like the way it reads.

It amazes me how many people on this board have such 'insight' into the true character, mind and will of God. It makes one wonder why, with such a vast gift of wisdom and knowledge that these same people don't use the gift to figure out how to make the world a better place.

Is it true that only annointed ones participate? If so, how many usually participate in the congregration? I would like to understand what makes this service so important if only a very small minority partake of the emblems?

Adonai... I'm fried...I don't feel like putting the time and effort in defending my Morman friends....I just know they're great people who try the best they can to do what Jesus would do and they believe and revere Him as The Savior, the Son of God (not the brother of Satan like certain christians try to label them wit...that's another taken out of context argument that I'll let a Morman explain...but it's not creepy at all). One last thing, you mentioned Mormans believing they're going to be gods....I know what you're talking about, but all of the Mormans I know don't even think about that..it's more like "yeah, like that's going to happen". I think that's another "weird" belief people try to pin on Mormans to make them look "un Chritian" when in reality if you look at the Bible you can see that even Jesus quoted the notion referring to Psalms:

John 10
33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.
34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?
35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;

(HE WAS QUOTEING FROM PSALMS) Psalm 82:6
"I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High."

Who's to say who is a Christian? Only God, certainly not man.
